PAST MEETINGS:

News from the 65th Annual Meeting

The 65th Annual HAPS Conference held from July 25–27, 2016 was a great success. Over 75 individuals participated in the three day advanced training program about death investigation. Topics covered included Investigation of Mass Murder, an Investigator field trip to both Shock Trauma and MIEMSS, Paradoxical Disrobing and the effects of POD casts, social media, and cable TV on closed homicide cases. Baltimore City Police Commissioner Kevin Davis provided opening remarks as well as returning the last day to hand out certificates of completion to the attendees. Further, this year participants were offered an opportunity to earn 16 hours of in-service training approved by MPCTC.
The annual HAPS business meeting was held on Tuesday. In an effort to encourage full membership participation, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to reduce the amount of annual dues to Twenty Dollars $20.00 per year beginning January 1, 2017. The membership year has also changed to a calendar year. Therefore, dues for 2017 will be due the first day of January. Email reminders will be sent out in November. Further, in an effort to encourage members to return, the Board voted to pass a delinquent dues amnesty period and waived any penalty for membership reinstatement.
The HAPS Board of Directors and Officers hope you choose to remain an active, dues paying member, even if you are not in a position personally to take advantage of the advanced training seminars. Many of you probably know officers in your own department that has not had the good fortune to attend the FGL Basic Seminar. However, your paid dues help sponsor the annual advanced training seminar, open to everyone in law enforcement or applicable medical discipline. Who knows, maybe the law enforcement officer or medical practitioner who is called to a scene of an unfortunate incident in your neighborhood, will be better prepared because they attended a HAPS training event…. a training opportunity made possible because you stayed an active member of HAPS.
